Monkeypox (Mpox) is a viral disease caused by the monkeypox virus (MPXV), which belongs to the Orthopoxvirus genus in the Poxviridae family. This family also includes variola, cowpox, and vaccinia viruses. Mpox can lead to a range of symptoms including a painful rash, swollen lymph nodes, fever, headache, muscle aches, back pain, and low energy.

Mpox is an enveloped double-stranded DNA virus. It has two main clades: Clade I (with subclades Ia and Ib) and Clade II (with subclades IIa and IIb). A significant global outbreak of Clade IIb started in 2022 and continues, while Clade Ib has been detected outside Africa as of August 2024.

NZYtech Monkeypox virus Real-time PCR Kit includes all reagents required to identify the presence of monkeypox virus DNA in a variety of relevant samples. DNA isolated and purified from different sample sources is amplified in a single reaction using two highly specific primers/probe sets. The probes specifically anneal to two regions of the monkeypox virus genome, namely B7R and CrmB genes. An additional primers/probe set acts as an endogenous internal control to detect nucleic acids of β-actin.
