Gangliosides are acidic membrane sphingolipids that contain sialic acid and oligosaccharide moieties.{31218} They have roles in cell proliferation, differentiation, adhesion, neuronal plasticity, intra- and intercellular signaling, and neurogenesis.{31218,25490,37782} They accumulate in a variety of lysosomal storage disorders including Sandhoff, Tay-Sachs, and Niemann-pick diseases.{40891,43703} Ganglioside Mixture contains the gangliosides asialo GM1, GM1, GD1a, GD1B, and GT1b and is intended for use as a reference standard for the detection of these gangliosides in various samples by TLC, LC-, or GC-MS.
