BAP1 (BRCA1 associated protein-1) is a deubiquitinating enzyme belonging to the ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase subfamily and is involved in the ubiquitin removal from proteins. It binds to the RING finger domain of the BCRA1 and acts as a tumor suppressor (1). BAP1 mutations have been found to cause multiple tumour types and high tumour phenotype penetrance, suggesting that it may have a major role in inducing cancer growth (2).
