Glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) is the GABA-synthesizing enzyme as well as a major autoantigen in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (DDM). GAD occurs in at least two isoforms, GAD 65 and GAD 67. The antibody was raised by immunizing with a synthetic peptide from the C-terminus of GAD 65. Absorption with 10-100 µg immunogen per ml diluted antiserum abolishes the staining.. Stefanini-fixed frozen sections of rat pancreas.
