Produced by macrophages, IFN-alpha have antiviral activities. Interferon stimulates the production of two enzymes: a protein kinase and an oligoadenylate synthetase. (www.uniprot.org) Produced in E.coli as a single, non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain containing 167 amino acids. Interferons are cytokines that are widely known to induce potent anti-viral activity.
